Hong Kong is not only one of the greatest cities in Asia, but also one of the most interesting attractions in the world. The city is always changing and life is fast paced here. This is why it can be difficult to decide (or find out) where to go to get the most out of your Hong Kong trip. However, there are some things that never change, and that tourists will find fascinating. These are things that you can find only here and that make this great city a fun and interesting experience.
Eating is something like a traditional sport in Hong Kong. The food industry is booming and new ideas and menus are being put into practice almost daily. Tourists love to try new things, and Hong Kong locals are more than happy to take care of this growing need. If you’re interested in trying some of the local delicacies, you’re in luck.
Start by trying the dim sum (small portions served in a steamer basket). You can enjoy it at a Michelin restaurant for as little as $10. Next, try the BBQ Pork Bun – delicious pork in a hot bun. If you want something more scientific, try the Lab Made Ice Cream. The ice cream can be instantly frozen in liquid nitrogen in front of you or it can be toasted right then and there.
If you wish to see the other side of Hong Kong, take a trip to Lantau Island. It will take you an entire day to visit the island, but it is a one of a kind experience. The fun fact is that the city is actually made out of hundreds of small islands, and only a few of them are inhabited. Lantau Island is where you will find the colossal statue of Big Buddha. There are 268 steps that will take you to the statue, but it is no easy feat to go up through the hot, humid Hong Kong air.
Next, visit the Police Married Quarters. This place has shops and cafes, and a lot of small designers present their merchandise at very affordable prices. Everything is inside an abandoned building that has been reclaimed and put to good use. It’s also the place where you can see up close what locals like to do in Hong Kong.
If you want to see the city from above and snap some pictures that will leave everyone back home in awe, take a trip up to the Peak. This is where British colonialists lived during colonial times. The houses built on these high peaks are very sought after in Hong Kong because the view of the city below is breathtaking. Don’t hesitate to go to the Peak and see just how immense Hong Kong really is. To reach the neighborhood, all you have to do is take the Victoria Peak tramway and ride it all the way to the top. The ride is also a wonderful experience because there are many attractions along the way.
Enjoy Hong Kong – it will not disappoint you!
