Why You Should Take the Kids to China
By Carissa Hickok
The world has different, wonderful places you can visit and enjoy. Unfortunately, for many of us, it is impossible to see all of these breathtaking places in a lifetime. When you have a family and you must plan your budget carefully, you need to prioritize. One place that your family absolutely needs to visit is China. A civilization spanning more than 5,000 years and over 3,700,000 square miles, China has many attractions for families. While you might not be able to visit everything, you can certainly reach the most important points of interest in one trip.
The capital of the Republic, Beijing, has many of the most famous historical sites. Families can visit interesting places such as the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. Also, children will love the experience of flying kites, enjoying rickshaw rides and experiencing dragon boat rides. Looking for nice recreational facilities and a fairytale kingdom? If so, be sure to visit the Beijing Happy Valley.
If you like animals and wildlife, or just want your kids to enjoy seeing rare species, you can visit the Beijing Zoo and Beijing Ocean Park. You can see pandas, lions, giraffes, rhinos and hyenas at the zoo, while your kids will be thrilled by the dolphin performances at the ocean park.
The Great Wall
We have all heard of the Great Wall of China, so it is definitely a must-see. This historical site is breathtaking, and your children will have a great time climbing into the watchtowers and imagining a Mongol invasion. There are also toboggans and cable cars in various sections of the wall. You can decide which part of the wall you want to visit after consulting a local guide or a map. You will find locals to be very helpful and friendly.
Xian is home to the famous Army of Terracotta Warriors. This is a unique discovery in the world and you should absolutely consider visiting you if you plan on checking out China. Xian means more than just the terracotta army, though. The ancient city wall is not only a historical site, but also a fun place for kids. They will enjoy bicycle rides and listen to wonderful musical fountains. In addition, the food markets are some of the best in the country; you can find whatever your heart desires.
The Yangtze River
If you are more into natural beauty, then you need to check out the Yangtze River. The mountain scenery is absolutely spectacular. In particular, the Three Gorges scenery will charm everyone, including your small ones. While navigating the river, you will pass the largest hydroelectric site, the Three Gorges Dam – it will “wow” you. For some thrills, you can visit the ancient ghost town and ride peapod rafts. Just don’t be afraid of getting wet when riding these little rafts; it’s all part of the fun!
If you’re looking for family fun in China, be sure to visit some of these spots!
