The first traces of color are appearing on the trees and the air has a noticeably cooler flavor to it. Autumn is a perfect time to take a trip. Whether you can get away for a week with your sweetheart or can throw the kiddos in the car for just an afternoon drive, I have some great ideas for a fall escape!
Head for the Water
Most of us think of heading to the beach when the sun is shining and summer is in full swing, but if that is the only time you go you will miss out on some of best beauty of the year.
There is something so great about a warm sweater and the cold spray of water under a perfect fall sky. So whether you live in Wisconsin and can walk along Lake Michigan while enjoying the brilliant colors of fall, or are able to take a short trip to the Pacific coast to see the white caps and smell the salty air.
Those that live in the New England states are especially lucky. They get the explosion of color and the roar of the ocean at the same time.
So have a picnic on the beach, drive a scenic loop along the coast, or pose for a selfie by a lighthouse this fall and head for somewhere wet!
A Cabin in the Woods
Fall is the perfect time of year to rent a cozy cabin the woods. Can you think of anything more romantic than curling up in the arms of your sweetheart in front of a fire, miles from civilization? I sure can’t’!
Pigeon Forge, TN boasts hundreds of cabins perfect for every group or couple. The colors in October are breathtaking and you might even spot a chubby black bear headed for hibernation. Go for a hike in Smokey Mountains National Park then come back and relax in a hot tub full of steaming water with cold air outside.
If you can’t manage the trip to Tennessee, look for a state or national park near you to find your family’s rustic autumn retreat.
If hiking trails and becoming one with nature is not your cup of tea, that does not mean you have to miss out on the glory of the season.
Head for your nearest big city. Whether New York, Minneapolis, Boston, or Seattle; each will be at her best during the month of October.
Listen to the crunch of fall leaves beneath your cute new boots as your window shop downtown. Head for the famers market and sample the local harvest, get a pumpkin spice latte at the coffee shop on the corner, and watch the world go by from a bench in the city park.
Take your weekend off, your free afternoon, or your big fall vacation where it suits you the best. Fresh air or fresh coffee both go better with the flavors and colors of the season.
