3 Ways to See Quebec City
By Carissa Hickok
When visiting a new city, taking a guided tour is one of the best ways to see all of the main attractions without doing much research yourself (or getting lost trying to find a spot). Here are several different tours you can take in Quebec City, broken down into four main transportation categories: walking, land, water, and air.
1. Walking Tours
Quebec offers several walking tour options depending on your interest. The Broue-Tours takes you around to the microbreweries in the Saint-Roch District and a brewhouse. The tour also includes 9 samples of beer! Corporation du patrimoine et du tourisme religieux de Québec offers guided tours of Quebec City’s churches and religious institutions. The Ghost Tours of Quebec operates a nighttime storytelling tour of the dark side of Quebec’s history as visitors walk down cobble stone streets. Quebec City Food Tours offers you two options: Old Quebec Food Tour or St-Roch Quebec Food Tour. Both tours include 6 food stops and 12 food and drink tastings. Tours Voir Québec offers cultural tours like the Grand Tour of Old Quebec City that focuses on architecture, history, and culture.
2. Land Tours
There are also bus tours with three different traveling options: regular coach bus, a double decker, or a shuttle bus. Besides offering double decker bus tours around the city and surrounding countryside, Old Quebec Tours also offers cruise ship tours for whale watching. You can tour Quebec on guided horse carriage rides or bicycle rides. The Charlevoix Train crosses the St. Lawrence River traveling between Quebec City and La Malbaie with stops in coastal towns and villages such as Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, Petite-Riviere-Saint-Francois, and Baie-Saint Paul. Traveling by train is a great way to see a side of towns you otherwise would not be able to see.
3. Water Tours
Croisieres AML offers boat cruises in the St. Lawrence River for an unforgettable view of Quebec City. On board, you will learn about Quebec’s history, St. Lawrence River, and the surrounding areas from the ship guide. The ship has multiple terraces from which you can take in the sights of North America’s last remaining fortified city. You can also take a guided water tour with Excursions Maritime Quebec, which offers you the chance to ride down the St. Lawrence River in a Zodiac boat. Excursions can be customized based on your preferences. The Québec City-Lévis Ferry takes you across the river from Corridor du Littoral (Quebec City) to Parcours des Anses (Levis) or vice versa, offering a fantastic photographic vantage of Old Quebec.
Complexe Capitale Hélicoptères GoHelico Tours & Excursions offers helicopter tours over the Quebec City Region. See Château Frontenac, Montmorency Falls, île d’Orléans, Old Quebec and much more from an aerial view that you won’t forget. The helicopter pilot will take you up and let you experience the magic. Feel the adrenaline rush as you take the controls (if you so dare) and don’t forget to document the experience with pictures and videos. Quebec Hydravion offers you the chance to fly aboard a seaplane with a pilot and guide to share with you all the discoveries of Quebec.
Explore Quebec – you won’t regret it!
