Spring is one of my favorite seasons. After the dreary cold of post-holiday winter, I find myself ready for some sunshine, rebirth, and flowers! There inevitably comes an unseasonably warm Spring day where I find myself sipping a strawberry smoothie with my windows wide open. That is when the itch comes: to clean closets, start back up at the gym, get my hair done and begin a new project (or ten). It’s no wonder “Spring cleaning” is a thing. It seems to reignite all of us to make those changes we have been meaning to make but couldn’t quite muster during the winter months.
The thought of Spring reminds me of one of my favorite poems by William Shakespeare:
From you have I been absent in the spring,
When proud-pied April dress'd in all his trim
Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing,
That heavy Saturn laugh'd and leap'd with him.
Yet nor the lays of birds nor the sweet smell
Of different flowers in odour and in hue
Could make me any summer's story tell,
Or from their proud lap pluck them where they grew;
Nor did I wonder at the lily's white,
Nor praise the deep vermilion in the rose;
They were but sweet, but figures of delight,
Drawn after you, you pattern of all those.
Yet seem'd it winter still, and, you away,
As with your shadow I with these did play.
Well, I shall procrastinate no more… Time to tackle this coat closet! What is on your Spring to-do list?
