I have a confession to make: I was empty handed on one of the most important Valentine's day ever. My (now) husband and I met in mid-January many years ago. Valentine's Day quickly rolled around. I asked him over for dinner, then panicked because I didn't know if I should get him a gift. We'd only been dating a few weeks. Surely, he wouldn't give me anything.
I asked my older sister and my sister's friends and my mom. Everyone said it was too soon to give Valentine's Day gifts. Dinner would be plenty.
The big day arrives. I heat up something frozen from Trader Joe's (hey, I'm not a chef) and make myself presentable. When I open the door for him, all I can see is arms full of flowers, cards, stuffed animals and chocolate and his sweet smile. I have nothing for him, other than heated up Trader Joe's.
The moral of the story is: don't listen to my sister, my sister's friends or my mother. Make sure you're not empty handed this Valentine's Day. I'll even make it easy for you and give you some hints about what to buy.
